Introduction

About me

You can divide my art into two main areas of focus:

My everyday art, which you will find on this site, the other being medical scientific research paintings and illustrations.

I was born in Yorkshire and for as long as I can remember I've drawn or painted something or other. It's always been a very important part of my life, a much needed relaxation from the stresses and pressures of life. In the early part of my life art was just a hobby, one that has given me immense pleasure and still does. For a career I chose electro/mechanical engineering. After my apprenticeship I started as an engineering design draughtsman. 40 years later I finished my career working for a computer networking company based in Silicone Valley, ending my career as a director of engineering design.

After retiring I took this technology into my art world and started digital painting. The subjects I paint are varied, I’ll paint most things, provided I have a passion, interest or love of the subject. My style of painting is known as Hyperrealism. That's to say my subjects are always colourful and super realistic.

My art differs from a lot of other digital artists in that everything you see is hand painted in a digital media, it is not generated by a computure, nor do  I use photographs, models or animations. Digital painting allows me to create colours and textures that can't be captured with a brush.  That's my style,  I love every minute of their creation and hope very much you’ll enjoy them too.

My everyday art

My art is borne from a world of imagination, colour, detail, vibrancy and passion. I play with colour, intensity, lighting, contrast, and sharpness to shape a more vivid depiction of my subjects, resulting in super realistic, colourful works that deliver powerful luxurious and unique subjects.

Medical research art

After retiring I was introduced to the science world by my bother in law Steven Gschmeissner who was a cancer research scientist. I now do a lot of work for the Science Photo Library in London creating scientific paintings/illustrations.

If you think science fiction is out of this world, then what takes place in your own body and how medical science is changing things will just blow your mind. Subjects such as:

Human cells such as blood, cancer, viruses, covid

and antibodies and treatments to combat these invaders. DNA and genetic engineering is another area I work in showing the amazing processes now taking place, that will change our lives and the world in which we live.

A number of my works have been published all over the world in newspapers, magazines, medical journals etc. including "The Lancet" and "The National Geographic"
